Breastfeeding 101: Nursing Bras and Clothing
Nursing Bra
Choosing a nursing bra is very specific to each nursing mama based on your breast size, how your breasts respond to nursing (little or lots of leaking, soreness, large changes in size), and your overall preferences for look and comfort. Here are some ideas of bras that we like and that you may want to consider as you decide which is best for you. Keep in mind the following things:
-
Your breasts may change size considerably just after your milk comes in and then may get smaller again after a few months.
-
Avoid underwire of a very tight bra
-
Larger breasts need more support
-
Nursing bras can be cute as well as functional
-
Usually a pumping bra is different than a nursing bra and can be purchased
separately or even made using an old sports bra

Nursing Clothes
Aim for easy access and comfort. Keep in mind the following
-
You will still have a belly for a while post birth
-
Your breasts may feel tender
-
You want very easy access to your breasts and you don’t want to hold your
shirt out of the way while managing the baby
-
Lose fitting is best at first
-
Eventually you may be able to wear regular button down, zippered, low cut,
v-neck, and wrap tops but your breast size may not allow for this initially
